Company fingerprint

A company fingerprint is Buzzlist's profile of what a company actually does, built from the people who work there: the mix of roles, common titles and skills, size and description. It replaces trusting an industry code, which is wrong for a large share of companies.

Industry codes (NAICS and SIC) are self-reported, stale and coarse. A software company can be filed under consulting, a managed-services firm under retail. Any list built only on codes carries those errors.

A fingerprint looks at evidence instead. A company whose staff are mostly engineers and product managers is a software company whatever its code says; one full of clinicians is a practice; one full of technicians and dispatchers is a trades business. Buzzlist holds fingerprints for about 9.7 million companies.

On top of the fingerprint, BuzzAI can classify a company's business model on demand, such as SaaS, IT services, agency or government contractor, and shows the evidence for the label. Classification happens once and is reused for everyone afterwards.

Common questions

Can I still search by NAICS code?

Yes. Codes remain a filter; fingerprints and business-model labels are there for when the code is not enough.
